The Dark Side of Resilience

Abstract Is resilience always adaptive and functional, or can be maladaptive in contexts where it masks vulnerability prevents effective action to address risk? In this paper, we propose a new reading of research which challenges the prevailing positive perspective instead proposes that negative aspects are common. We focus on studying spectrum, distinguishing between degrees functionality by asking three questions: (1) there wrong degree resilience? (2) context for (3) type conclude with reflections dark side differentiating functional less adaptation relation contexts, risk, types shown.
